What Mississippi River experiences await along Arkansas' Great River Road:
You may explore the fertile lands of eastern Arkansas known as the Delta. During the growing season you will see large farms growing cotton, rice, soybeans and wheat, as well as "Aquaculture Ponds" where catfish and crawfish are raised. In the Fall, enjoy watching the harvest of these crops or visit a cotton gin for a very unique experience. In both seasons you can watch from your vehicle as crop dusters exhibit their amazing flying skills as they seed, fertilize, and/or prepare the crops for harvest. View swamps, bayous, and the oxbow lakes created by the Mississippi River when it changed its course. Visit museums and monuments which highlight Civil War and Arkansas history, music of the Delta, Native American culture and the way the Mississippi River has shaped the land. Travel through the St. Francis National Forest to enjoy its scenic beauty, play golf on the Natural State Golf Trail Course or visit any one or several of the six Arkansas State Parks near the Great River Road. The Arkansas Delta is a paradise for hunting, fishing and bird watching.
