70th Anniv. Geocaching Rules

The Mississippi River Parkway Commission (MRPC) 70th Anniversary Geocaching Event (“70th Anniversary Geocaching Event”) begins May 1, 2008 at 12:01am Central Standard Time and ends September 23, 2008 at 11:59pm.

Registration: To participate in the 70th Anniversary Geocaching Event, you must have an account or create an account on geocaching.com. Having an account on geocaching.com allows you to access the coordinates necessary for finding the special 70th Anniversary Geocaching Event Caches (“Special Event Caches”).

Cache Log Sheet: Use the special 70th Anniversary Geocaching Event Cache Log Sheet (“Cache Log Sheet”) to record the Special Code indicated in each Special Event Cache, using the proper line on the Cache Log Sheet. Having the proper Special Code for each Special Event Cache you find is the only evidence that proves you have found that particular Special Event Cache. Only Special 70th Anniversary Caches with the proper Special Codes will qualify for entry into the Grand Prize Drawing.

Prize Drawing Entry Eligibility: To be eligible to enter the Grand Prize Drawing, participants must find at least 10 Special Event Caches, with one Special Event Cache from at least three different states. If you meet this minimum requirement and mail your qualifying Cache Log Sheet  so that it is received at the address listed below before the deadline, your name will then be entered into the drawing one time for each state in which you found a cache (if you’ve found a minimum of 10 caches in at least three states). For example, if you find 10 Special Event Caches in five different states, you will be entered five times. If you find 10 Special Event Caches in 10 different states, you’ll be entered the maximum 10 times. You must be 18 years or older to enter.

Ethical Geocaching: Geocachers who damage, vandalize or move caches, or otherwise treat Special Event Caches or any other cache in an unsportsmanlike manner will be disqualified. The goal behind the MRPC 70th Anniversary Geocaching Event is to promote geocaching in the 10 states along the Mississippi River and to promote the appreciation of the historical, cultural, natural and recreational opportunities that the region has to offer.

Right to Change Rules: The MRPC and the organizers of this event reserve the right to change the rules at any time.

Grand Prize Description: Two winners will be selected to win Grand Prizes. One Grand Prize will be five (5) separate weekend getaway packages in the five southernmost of the states located along the Mississippi River and the other Grand Prize will consist of five (5) separate weekend getaway packages in the five northernmost of the 10 states located along the Mississippi River. All getaway packages are subject to restrictions and expiration dates indicated—no refunds or substitutions will be made. Near the bottom of the Cache Log Sheet, there is a place where participants with qualifying Cache Log Sheet can choose to be entered into the drawing for the northernmost state’s prize package or the southernmost state’s or both drawings. There will be no ties. Only two Grand Prizes will be awarded. Prize value exceeds $1500

Event Deadline: To be eligible for entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, the MRPC must receive qualifying Cache Log Sheet by September 23, 2008.  Cache Log Sheet must be mailed to: Mississippi River Parkway Commission National Office, 222 State Street Suite 400, Madison, WI  53703 or faxed to 608-242-8896.  No hand deliveries will be accepted.
