Mississippi River Fun Facts
Great River RoadThe Great River Road was established in 1938 as the national parkway of the Mississippi River. Follow the green Pilot's Wheel road signs that mark its route nearly 3,000 miles through 10 states.
The Mississippi River forms the 3rd largest drainage basin in the world. Its system of 29 locks-and-dams stretches 669 miles between Minneapolis, Minn. and Granite City, Ill., controlling nearly 2/3 of the nation's watershed.
Favorite Places Along the River
The view of Winona, Minnesota from Garvin Heights Park is superb. There are lots of other great parks in and around the town, too, for hiking, canoeing, and picnicking!

Favorite Places Beyond the River
Located in historic downtown Paducah, the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society lobby is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows in a variety of quilted patterns. You'll find more than 150 quilts on display; treasures not to be your “grandmas” quilts, but delicate works of art.
